Sound Dogs Supervisor Jill Purdy and Designer Craig Henighan recently returned from Los Angeles where they completed work on Constantin Films’ action/adventure "DOA; Dead or Alive". It is the most recent in a series of projects that Sound Dogs Toronto has done stateside either in whole or in part through it’s recently established New York office.
Says Sound Dogs VP Stephen Barden who has led the New York charge: “We are responding to the clearly stated desires of many of our clients for a physical representation in the New York and Los Angeles markets. We have been established in Los Angeles for more than a decade now and the addition of our New York offices has been a fun, and natural extension. We have great relationships with a number of editors and mixers there, most notably with Coll Anderson, who has been instrumental in our emergence in Gotham."
From a business standpoint, the move has helped facilitate smoother workflows for Sound Dogs when collaborating with their New York and Los Angeles clients.
Jill Purdy recounts her DOA experience in Los Angeles:
Dead or Alive was re-recorded at Wilshire Stages in Los Angeles by Todd Beckett and Craig Henighan, using Harrison MPC and ProControl consoles. With the gracious help of Chief Technical Engineer Mike Morongell and Operator
Martin Schloemer, the tight mix schedule was met and the constraints of working in a new facility were relatively invisible, resulting in a sound-design heavy soundtrack that superceded time and budget.
Facilitated by Paul Rodriguez and Dan Medina, the overall experience with Wilshire was comfortable and easy-going. Wilshire’s Stage B was used for predubbing; Stage A for the final mix. The location of an ADR room in the facility enabled last-minute add lines to be accommodated via ProTools and posted on the internal network without issue.
DOA; Dead or Alive hits theatres on September 8, 2006
